A book isn't just for Christmas

My first novel Zero Magenta has now been out for a week and like a protective parent it's hard to set your child free.

Feedback from friends and family has been great, and I really appreciate the support. A review published on Amazon by Linda has more eloquently described the book than I could. Many thanks.

Having broken my duck (a strange English saying!) I intend to write more. The next story is likely to be a fantasy, based on an idea I had over ten years ago. Unlike many writers I will not be using pen names to split my fantasy and sci-fi work. In fact if you were wondering - John Howes is my real name.

If you have any comments or questions on Zero Magenta or anything else related to writing sci-fi and fantasy, please let me know.

Cheers for now.

John Howes.

It's Here!

Hi There.

I've just published my first novel: Zero Magenta, which is now available as a digital download on the Amazon Kindle store.

I'd like to thank my lovely wife Lisa for all your help with editing and proof reading. I couldn't have done it without your help and support x.

I'll be interested to hear what people think. It's my first so please be gentle :-)

I'm already thinking of other stories, and I have another planned for 2016.

Bye for now.

Getting Nearer

I'm still targeting Christmas as the publishing date but I now need the "editor in chief" (my lovely wife Lisa!) to go through it with a fine tooth comb.

Ok so a bit about the book:

Although it falls into the genre of Science Fiction, it's very contemporary. It imagines a world very similar to today (no flying cars or teleportation etc.).

I would say it's also a story about love, loss and what it means to be human.

This is currently the Description which will go with the ebook when it appears on the Amazon Kindle store:

Artificial intelligence is a reality in the not too distant future. The giant AHS Robotic Systems Inc. has combined advanced robotics, electronics and polymer technology to create the myPAL. A robot which is capable of self-awareness and consciousness. It is virtually identical to a human in all regards.

Unfortunately the dream of a robot in every home is far from reality. At over $1,500,000 only the rich can afford these play things and can do with them as they please. Robots have no rights.

Brad and Mags live an idyllic, loving life together in London. His job as a city currency trader giving them all the trappings of luxury.

Unfortunately a series of events start to unfold around them which will cause them to confront past demons, their own place in the world, and the very nature of humanity.

In a world where artificially intelligent robots are real, what is love, hate and cruelty?

Right, my first novel is almost there. It just needs another proof read and I think I'll be ready to publish by Christmas.

I've created the cover art, and I'm pretty pleased with it.

I've been trying to think of a tag line but I can't think of anything which sums up the whole book.

I'll be adding a few words here soon that detail some of the plot, without giving too much away.

Being new to all this blogging malarkey (English word - Google it!) It should come as no surprise that I've as yet no idea what to do!

I'm about to publish my first book - It's just going through proof reading and cover art creation at present and I thought a blog might be useful for marketing it and responding the many thousands of reader (!) I'm bound to get ;-)

Please check back soon when there should be more details.

Cheers

John H.
